Language courses

Registering to a language course

  1. UO students are required to pass a foreign language course exam at the B2 level.

  2. Registration for language courses takes place through the website http://usosweb.uni.opole.pl. It is intended only for full-time first-cycle (Bachelor’s) students who have not yet started their language course.

  3. Each first-year full-time Bachelor’s student receives: two JO tokens for learning one foreign language at the same level (120 hours), and one EJO token for the foreign language exam. These tokens are the basis for electronic registration for classes and the exam.

  4. One JO token = 1 semester of classes. One EJO token = the ability to register for the exam. After registering for the exam, the student has two attempts to pass it. If the student fails both times, they must repeat the semester. To do this, they need to contact the head of the relevant language section.

  5. Didn’t receive your JO and EJO tokens? Contact your dean’s office.

  6. Registration does not automatically mean acceptance into the group. Only after the registration is approved will you become a participant in the course. You do not need to register for the second semester of the language course – the next token is used automatically.

  7. Students eligible for a language course credit transfer must register in the “Language Course Credit Transfer” group. They do not need to attend classes but will appear on attendance lists and grade reports. At the end of the semester, they should request the entry in the USOS system. You must register yourself in the “Language Course Credit Transfer” group for each semester you want to have transferred.

  8. The choice of language must be carefully considered. You cannot change the language or group after the registration period closes. If you do not think your choice through, register and fail to deregister during the registration period or with the course instructor, you will lose your free token and receive a “NK” status, meaning “not classified” for the course.

  9. During the semester, check whether you are enrolled in the correct group by logging into your USOSweb account at www.usosweb.uni.opole.pl.

  10. When registering for a given language level, take your high school exam results into account (for B2 level, a preferred result is 90% or more on the basic exam, or 50–60% on the extended exam).

  11. If you use up your free tokens (two JO and one EJO), and you need or want to continue your language course, each subsequent registration (or automatic enrollment for continuing students) will be subject to a fee. Upon joining a group, the system will generate a payment that you must settle before the start of the semester. Check this in the USOSweb system at www.usosweb.uni.opole.pl.

  12. Electronic registration does not apply to students of the Institute of Psychology and selected programs and specializations at the Faculty of Philology.

Electronic registration for the language course exam

  1. Before starting registration, check at http://usosweb.uni.opole.pl whether you have an EJO token (see above), which will allow you to register for the exam.
  2. If you do not have such a token, report it to zetony@uni.opole.pl. In the email, provide your details: first name, last name, and index number. You will receive the token within a few days.
  3. One EJO token allows you to register for the exam. After registration, you have two attempts to pass the exam using one token.
  4. For the first exam, you must register in your instructor’s group, i.e., the group described as, for example: “English B2 exam – group led by …”.
  5. Students who have a certificate must register in the group labeled “Students with certificate.”
  6. Students who may be exempt from the exam must register in the group labeled “Exam exemption.”
  7. First-year students, allowed after diagnostic tests to take the exam in the June session, must register in the group labeled “Pre-language course exam for first year.”
  8. If you register for the wrong group or register but do not show up for the exam, you will lose your token.
  9. Exam registration takes place at the end of each semester, sufficiently in advance of the exam.
  10. Remember – a student who is not registered in the system will not be allowed to take the exam.
